The New Dimsport Tractor Dyno DF2TR2 vs The Older Generation – What’s Changed?

Dimsport have recently released a new generation of tractor dynos, marking a significant step forward for workshops working in the agricultural tuning sector. In this blog, we take a closer look at what’s changed, how the new DF2TR2 compares to the previous generation, and what it means in real world use.

If you’ve been around Avon Tuning HD for a while, you’ll know we’ve been using Dimsport dynos for testing tractors for some time now. They’ve always been extremely reliable, highly repeatable, and very cost effective. The latest release of the DF2TR2 single phase dyno builds on that strong foundation, offering even greater accessibility for workshops.

To be honest, this update has been a long time coming. Dimsport have not only introduced a new single phase option but also refined and expanded the overall tractor dyno range. This means improved flexibility, greater accessibility, and more options for workshops depending on their setup. Here’s a quick overview of the current Dimsport tractor dyno range:

Dimsport Tractor Dyno Range Overview

ModelDescriptionPower CapacityPower Supply
DF2TR2 Workshop dyno with single eddy brake Up to 300hp Single Phase
DF2TR2MAX Workshop dyno with single eddy brake Up to 330hp Three Phase
DF4TR2MAX Workshop dyno with double eddy brake Up to 660hp Three Phase
DF2TR2-TR Mobile trailer dyno with single eddy brake Up to 330hp Three Phase

Single Phase Dimsport Tractor Dyno DF2TR2

The new DF2TR2 runs on a single phase 16 amp power supply, which basically means you don’t need any expensive industrial electrical setup to run it. With the older dyno setups, that was always one of the bigger barriers, especially for smaller workshops or mobile setups.

Now it’s more of a plug-and-play situation. You can get it up and running without major installation work, which saves both time and money. It also makes it a solid option if you’re thinking about fitting a dyno into a trailer and going mobile.

Power & Capability of the Dimsport Tractor Dyno DF2TR2

Even though it’s more accessible, it hasn’t lost any real capability where it matters. The DF2TR2 is still capable of testing up to 300hp at the PTO using a single eddy brake system.

For most agricultural applications, that’s more than enough for PDI testing, diagnosing faults and verifying tuning results.

And if you do need more, Dimsport dynos are available all the way up to 660hp.

What’s New in the Latest Dimsport Tractor Dynos?

Not only have Dimsport introduced a single phase dyno, they have also given the entire tractor dyno range a revamp. The latest generation benefits from improved reliability, enhanced cooling performance, and a more refined user interface making day to day operations smoother.

You’ve got full control over your tests, allowing you to choose when a test starts, when it ends, how long it runs, and even hold the tractor at a fixed PTO speed, something that’s especially useful when diagnosing faults.

On the hardware side, improvements have been made across the range. Additional cooling fans help maintain consistent performance during longer runs, while the upgraded speed sensor improves reliability and reduces the likelihood of issues.

One of the standout additions is the enhanced diagnostic capability. While it’s not built directly into the dyno itself, Dimsport now offer a device called Multilink, which connects to the dyno PC. This allows you to read live engine data, monitor parameters, and check or clear fault codes, making fault finding far easier without needing a separate diagnostic tool.

Testing & Data Options for the Dimsport Tractor Dyno DF2TR2

The dyno still offers a wide range of test options, which is one of the biggest advantages of the Dimsport setup in general. You’re not locked into one way of testing.

You can run things like timed constant engine speed tests, constant traction tests, manual braking tests and deceleration tests, all while collecting real-time data.

On top of that, you’re able to monitor things like:

  • PTO power and torque
  • Engine power & torque
  • PTO speed
  • Boost pressure
  • Oil and coolant temperatures
  • Exhaust gas temperatures

There’s also the option to add a fuel consumption meter if needed.

Day-to-Day Use of the DF2TR2 in the Workshop

From a workshop point of view, this is where the new dyno really stands out. It’s compact, easy to move, and is built properly for daily use. Whether it’s fixed in a workshop or installed into a mobile setup, it’s designed to handle regular testing without hassle.

Running costs are lower as well. You’re not dealing with heavy power requirements, and maintenance is straightforward.

Summary

Overall, the latest generation of Dimsport tractor dynos represent a well rounded improvement across the board. While the previous models have proven themselves to be reliable and consistent over time, the new V2 range builds on that foundation.

The introduction of single phase power makes the DF2TR2 a far more practical option for a wider range of workshops, and the updates to software, cooling, and diagnostics help make day to day use more efficient.
