New Holland tractors turn more acres in Britain than almost anything else on the market. The T6 and T7 ranges have become the default choice for mixed farms and contractors who need one machine for draft work, loader duty and the road runs in between. That versatility comes from FPT engines shared across several model ranges, and because the same engine is sold at several different power ratings, most of them leave the factory with more in reserve than the badge suggests.

Mapped Across The Range

We have been remapping New Holland equipment since 2014. Our platform covers the current T4 through T9 tractor ranges, the CR and CX combines, the FR foragers and the LM telehandlers, along with the legacy machines still earning their keep: the T4000, T6000 and T7000 series, the TS, TM and TVT tractors and the articulated TJs. Every calibration is written in-house by our UK R&D team for the specific engine in front of us.

New Holland Boost Mode Explained

Most New Holland tractors have a boost mode that allows the tractor to run more power under certain conditions, for example when the wheels are turning and the PTO is engaged. This means if you are doing haulage work and the PTO isn't engaged, you will be running in the lower unboosted power mode.

What some people don’t know is that the power rating on the bonnet is the boosted engine power. This means some owners are not getting the power they thought they were.

For example, a T7.210 produces 210 hp at the engine under boost. If you only use the tractor for haulage, it's probably only outputting 165 hp. We offer a boost lock map that lets us lock the boost so it works at bonnet power all the time.

Fuel is the highest controllable cost on most farms, and it is where a New Holland remap pays for itself first. By adjusting injection pressure and timing, we improve fuel efficiency by between 5% and 15% on most machines. The gains are largest where the engine is working hardest and holding on: heavy draft work, cultivating in wet ground, hauling a loaded trailer up a bank. A tractor asked to work near the top of its rev range all day is the one with the most to give back.

Torque is the other half of it. A T7 with another 140Nm underneath it holds forward speed through the heavy patch instead of dropping a gear, so the same field takes fewer passes and less time on the headland. Contractors running Auto Command and Dynamic Command transmissions notice it as fewer shifts and steadier ground speed. And because seasonal work does not wait, every job that finishes sooner is another day of the weather window kept in hand.

If you are weighing up a bigger tractor, it is worth checking what the one in the yard can already do. In a lot of cases you already own the machine you were about to go and buy.

For the family farm running one or two tractors, the case is the same but more immediate. The machine feels less laboured, the loader work stops being a fight, and the road runs between blocks take less diesel.

None of this comes at the cost of reliability. We calibrate within the safe operating limits of the engine and the running gear behind it, because there is no point unlocking power the transmission cannot carry. Every remap starts with a full diagnostic health check to confirm the machine is in good order, the original map is backed up on our own server so you can revert at any point, and the software carries a lifetime warranty against malfunction.

Understanding New Holland Engine Platforms

New Holland engines come from FPT Industrial, and the range splits broadly into two families. The NEF engines, at 4.5 and 6.7 litres, cover the T5, T6 and most of the T7 range. Above those sit the Cursor engines, at 9, 13 and 16 litres, powering the top T7 models, the T8 and T9 tractors and the CR combines. Knowing which family and which emissions stage you are dealing with matters, because a Tier 4A T6 and a Tier 5 T6 wearing the same badge are not the same calibration job.

Realise The Full Potential

This is where modular manufacturing works in the operator's favour. Manufacturers build one engine and then sell it at several power ratings, with software doing the separating. The New Holland T6.175 Tier 4A shares its 6.7-litre engine with the entire T7 range, which tells you the hardware has considerably more in it than the badge suggests. Our figures bear that out. A T6.175 leaves the factory rated at 140hp, and our calibration takes it to 175hp, which is the number on the bonnet.

That does not mean every engine should be pushed to its ceiling. There can be a mismatch between engine output and running gear, and there is no sense in a calibration the driveline cannot live with. What it does mean is that on most New Holland machines there is real headroom, and our job is to find where it ends.

The Health Check First

Every job starts with a full diagnostic health check. If there is a fault sitting on the machine, we want to know about it before we touch the software, not after. Once the machine has a clean bill of health, we back the original map up to our own server, which means the tractor can be returned to the manufacturer's default at any point in the future.

Connect And Calibrate

The calibration is performed via the OBD port on most New Holland machines, though some ECUs require bench access. Our agent will confirm which applies to your machine when the work is booked. Most installations are completed within a few hours.

PTO Power Verification

On tractors, where possible, we measure updated performance on a PTO dynamometer, although not all of our agents can PTO-test on the farm. However, all our calibrations are tested on our dynamometer at our HQ, so the quoted values are the ones you will get from your machine.

Quick, Clean & Reversible

Commonly, installs happen at your farm or yard and are carried out by a local authorised agent. This ensures machines are back to work the same day, typically in a few hours. Most New Holland remaps are carried out on the farm. We have a network of 400+ trained and authorised agents across the UK and internationally, and your local agent comes to the yard with the tools to do the diagnostic check, the install and, where possible, PTO verification on site. During harvest or drilling, that matters, because the machine is back at work the same day.

Common Questions About New Holland Remapping

A:

A remap is a modification to the engine software, and manufacturers can decline warranty claims relating to it. In practice, most of the machines we work on are outside the manufacturer warranty period. If yours is still under warranty, talk to your dealer first and us second, and we will tell you whether it is worth waiting.

A:

No. We calibrate within the safe operating limits of the engine and the driveline behind it. We will not write a map that puts more through a transmission than it was designed to carry, even when the engine could take it. Every job begins with a diagnostic health check, and if the machine has a problem, we will tell you before we touch the software.

A:

Between 5% and 15% on most machines. The biggest savings come from engines that spend their working life under heavy load, so heavy draft work and loaded haulage show it soonest. Light work on a big tractor will show less.
