We deliver Mercedes-specific calibrations that improve power, torque and fuel efficiency without compromising the reliability your operation depends on

A Trusted Badge, Improved Performance

Mercedes-Benz has been building trucks for the best part of a century, and the three-pointed star remains one of the most trusted badges in commercial transport. The Actros is a fixture on UK roads for good reason: it is a proven, reliable long-haul platform that fleets depend on. The Arocs handles construction and heavy haulage. The Atego covers medium-duty distribution. Between them, Mercedes trucks account for a significant share of the UK heavy-duty market, and we remap all of them.

R&D Led Specialists

Our R&D team has developed calibrations across the full Mercedes diesel range, from the 7.7-litre OM 936 in the Atego through to the 15.6-litre OM 473 that powers the heaviest Arocs applications. With over a decade of heavy-duty remapping experience and a global network of more than 300 trained and authorised agents, we deliver Mercedes-specific calibrations that improve power, torque and fuel efficiency without compromising the reliability your operation depends on.

The Smart Business Case For Mercedes Remapping

Fuel is the single biggest variable cost in any transport operation, and it is the area where a Mercedes remap delivers the most immediate return. The trucks that benefit most are the ones working hardest: an Actros pulling a full load along A roads, climbing gradients, accelerating out of roundabouts, dealing with the constant speed changes that stop-start routes demand. That is where the engine is under real load, and where the improvements in torque and fuelling efficiency translate directly into fewer litres burned per mile.

Operators running routes like these typically see fuel savings of between 5% and 15%, depending on the application and driving style.

The torque gains matter just as much as the fuel figures. A remapped Actros or Arocs pulls harder through the mid-range, which means fewer gear changes on inclines and less time spent with the engine working at the top of its rev range. Loaded overtakes feel less laboured. Drivers notice the difference within the first few miles, and a driver who is not fighting the truck all day is a driver who arrives less fatigued and more likely to stay with your fleet. For operators running Ategos on distribution work, the improved low-end response makes urban driving less of a chore, particularly when fully laden.

If you are an owner-operator running a single Actros or Arocs, the commercial case is just as clear. Better throttle response on loaded A roads, improved fuel economy over the course of a working week, and a truck that feels like it has more in reserve when you need it. The remap pays for itself in fuel savings alone for most operators within a few months.

Every Mercedes calibration we develop is engineered within the safe operating limits of the engine, turbo and drivetrain. We never push components beyond what the hardware can handle. Your original map is backed up to a dedicated server before any work begins, and every remap comes with a lifetime software warranty. A full diagnostic health check is carried out before we touch the ECU, so if there is an existing issue with the engine, we will find it first. The truck that leaves is more capable than the truck that arrived, and just as reliable.

Understanding Mercedes Engine Platforms

Mercedes-Benz builds its commercial vehicles around a tightly defined set of engine platforms, each developed for a specific weight class and application. The OM 471 is the workhorse of the Actros range. It is a 12.8-litre inline six producing between 435 and 550 PS depending on the variant, and it powers the majority of long-haul and distribution Actros models on UK roads. It is also the engine that most of our Mercedes remapping work centres on.

Calibration Potential Delivered

The calibration potential across the OM 471 range is considerable, particularly on the lower-output variants where the hardware is identical to the higher-rated models but the factory software limits output well below what the engine is mechanically capable of.

The OM 473 sits above it. This is a 15.6-litre unit producing up to 625 PS, and it is the engine of choice for heavy Arocs applications: tippers, heavy haulage, construction work where sustained torque under load matters more than outright speed. The OM 473 responds well to remapping because these trucks are almost always working near their limits, and even a modest gain in low-end torque reduces the strain on the drivetrain and improves fuel consumption under load.

At the lighter end of the range, the OM 936 is a 7.7-litre four-cylinder that powers the Atego and Econic. It produces between 231 and 286 PS in factory trim. The Atego is a common sight on urban distribution routes, and the OM 936 benefits from remapping in much the same way as the larger engines: better throttle response, improved pulling power when laden, and measurable fuel savings on repeated short-to-medium haul routes.

Like most truck manufacturers, Mercedes uses the same engine block across multiple power ratings within a platform. An OM 471 in a 435 PS Actros is mechanically the same unit as the one in a 550 PS Actros. The difference is in the factory calibration and sometimes small differences in the intake and fuel components. This is not speculation; it is how modular truck manufacturing works, and it is why remapping these engines produces such consistent results. The hardware already has the capacity. We adjust the software to make proper use of it.

How We Remap Your Mercedes

How We Remap Your Mercedes

Image - Mercedes Trucks

Initial Diagnostics

The process starts with a full diagnostic health check. Before we make any changes to the ECU, we confirm that the engine, turbo and emissions systems are all in good working order. If there is a fault code or an underlying issue, we flag it before going any further. This protects you and ensures the remap is applied to a truck that is in the right condition to benefit from it.

Image - Mercedes Trucks

Original Map Saved

Once the health check is complete, we take a full backup of the original map and store it on a dedicated server. This backup is always available if you ever need to revert, whether for a warranty inspection, a change of operator, or any other reason.

New Map Installed

The remap is then installed, typically via the OBD port or by a direct connection to the ECU using our specialist cables. Post-installation, we run a second diagnostic check and road test to verify that everything is performing as expected.

On Premises Or Our HQ

Most Mercedes remapping work is carried out at the customer's premises by one of our authorised agents. The agent comes to your depot, yard or workshop and completes the work on-site, typically within a few hours, including diagnostics and verification. If you are based in or around the South West of England, you are also welcome to bring your truck to our headquarters just outside Bristol, where we have full dyno testing facilities for smaller commercial vehicles, including our Dimsport dynamometer.

Flexible Service For Mercedes Operators

Most of our Mercedes remapping work is carried out on-site. One of our trained and authorised agents will come to your depot, workshop or yard and complete the full process there, from initial diagnostics through to post-install verification. For fleet operators, this means minimal disruption. No trucks off the road for longer than necessary, no wasted mileage driving to a workshop.

Our agent network covers the UK and extends globally, so wherever your Mercedes trucks are based, there is likely an authorised agent within reach. Use the agent locator to find your closest one.

For operators in the South West of England, or anyone who prefers direct access to our R&D team, you can bring your Mercedes to Avon Tuning HQ just outside Bristol. We have a full workshop with Dimsport dynamometer facilities, so we can perform dyno testing on smaller vehicles as part of the remap process. This is particularly useful for operators who want verified before-and-after figures.

If you run a fleet of Mercedes trucks and want to remap multiple vehicles, we can work with you to schedule a phased rollout that minimises disruption to your operations. Whether that means remapping two or three trucks at a time during planned downtime, or working through the fleet on a rolling basis, we will find an approach that fits your schedule.

Common Questions About Mercedes Remapping

A:

Mercedes-Benz does not officially endorse aftermarket ECU modifications, and any changes to the engine management software may affect your manufacturer's warranty. In practice, most of the Mercedes trucks we remap are outside their original warranty period. If your truck is still under warranty, we recommend discussing this with your dealer before proceeding. What we can tell you is that our remaps are engineered within the safe operating parameters of the engine and drivetrain, every original map is backed up, and the process is fully reversible.

A:

A Mercedes remap is typically completed within a few hours, including the initial diagnostic health check and post-install verification. Most work is carried out at your premises by one of our authorised agents, so there is no need to take the truck off the road for an extended period. If you are based in or near the South West, you can also bring your truck to our headquarters just outside Bristol.

A:

No. Every calibration we develop is engineered within the safe operating limits of the engine, turbo and drivetrain. We do not push components beyond what the hardware is designed to handle. A full diagnostic health check is carried out before any remap to confirm the truck is in good condition, and the original map is backed up to a dedicated server. Every remap comes with a lifetime software warranty.

A:

Most Mercedes operators see fuel savings of between 5% and 15%. The biggest gains come from trucks that are working hardest: pulling heavy loads along A roads, climbing gradients, and dealing with frequent speed changes. An Actros or Arocs that spends most of its time under load on mixed routes will see a more noticeable improvement than one cruising at a constant speed. Driving style and load profile both play a part, but the improvements are consistent and measurable.

A:

Yes. We work with fleet operators across the UK and can schedule remaps to minimise disruption to your operations. Whether you want to remap your entire fleet in a phased rollout or start with a few trucks to evaluate the results, we will work around your schedule. Our agents carry out the work on-site at your depot, so the trucks do not need to go anywhere.

A:

Our network of more than 300 trained and authorised agents covers the UK and extends globally. Use the agent locator on our website to find your closest agent. If there is not one near you, get in touch, and we will find a solution.

A:

Completely. Your original factory map is backed up to a dedicated server before any work begins. If you ever need to revert to the original calibration, whether for a warranty inspection, a change of operator, or any other reason, we can restore it.
