Tough Practical Trucks Made Better

Renault Trucks has been building commercial vehicles out of Lyon since the 1890s, and the brand has earned its place on UK roads through decades of producing tough, practical trucks that get the job done. From the T High on long-haul tractor work to the D and D Wide handling urban and regional distribution, and the C and K ranges built for construction and off-road, Renault offers a lineup that covers virtually every transport application. That breadth, combined with a well-proven engine range shared across multiple models, makes Renault trucks particularly well-suited to ECU remapping.

Dependable Performance Improvements

Our R&D team has developed calibrations for the full range of Renault Trucks diesel engines, from the 5.1-litre DTI 5 through the 7.7-litre DTI 8 and 11-litre DTI 11 to the 12.8-litre DTI 13 that powers the T and T High. With over a decade of heavy-duty remapping experience and a global network of more than 300 trained and authorised agents, we deliver Renault-specific calibrations that improve power, torque and fuel efficiency without compromising the reliability your operation depends on.

The Smart Business Case For Renault Trucks Remapping

Fuel is the single largest operating cost for any transport business, and even a modest reduction in consumption makes a real difference across a fleet. Our Renault Trucks remaps are calibrated to improve combustion efficiency across the DTI engine range, which means your trucks use less diesel to do the same work. For a haulier running T or T High tractors on long-haul work, or a fleet of D-Series rigids on regional distribution, that translates directly into lower cost per mile and fewer stops at the pump. We typically see fuel savings of between 5% and 15%, depending on the engine variant, load profile and driving conditions. The biggest improvements tend to come from trucks that are working hardest, particularly underpowered Renaults hauling heavy loads along A roads where the engine is constantly under strain. A D-Series 280 pulling close to its gross weight on cross-country routes, for example, has more to gain than a lightly loaded T High cruising at steady speed. Those savings compound quickly when you multiply them across every truck in your operation.

We typically see fuel savings of between 5% and 15%, depending on the engine variant, load profile and driving conditions.

Fuel economy is only part of the picture. A remapped Renault delivers more torque lower in the rev range, which changes the way the truck behaves under load. The DTI 13 in a T480 already has a broad torque band, but a remap extends it further, so hills that used to mean the Optidriver hunting for a lower gear become less of an interruption. Overtaking with a full trailer feels more confident. Drivers report a smoother, more responsive experience overall, and a driver who is not fighting the truck stays fresher for longer. That has real implications for fleet managers thinking about fatigue management and staff retention.

If you’re running one or two Renaults rather than a fleet, the same benefits apply on a more personal level. Your truck already performs well, but a remap unlocks the power and torque the factory map leaves on the table. Long runs feel less laboured, loaded pulls are noticeably stronger, and the fuel savings help offset running costs that are only going up.

We understand that any modification to a working truck must make commercial sense and be safe. Our Renault Trucks remaps are developed by our UK-based R&D team with the specific operating parameters of each DTI engine platform in mind. We never push an engine beyond what the hardware can safely handle, and every remap comes with a lifetime software warranty. Before we touch a truck, we run a full diagnostic health check to confirm everything is in good working order. Your original map is backed up to a dedicated server, so the process is fully reversible at any point.

Understanding Renault Trucks Engine Platforms

Renault Trucks, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group having been acquired by Volvo in 2001, builds its range around four diesel engine families, each developed in-house and shared across multiple models and applications. For remapping purposes, this is important. The same DTI 13 that powers a T High long-haul tractor also powers the C-series construction truck and the K-series tipper, tuned to different outputs by the factory but built on identical hardware. That means our R&D team can develop deep expertise in each engine platform and apply it across every model that uses it.

Realising Full Potential

The 5.1-litre DTI 5 is a four-cylinder unit producing between 210 and 240hp, paired with the D-series for urban delivery and lighter distribution work. It is a compact engine designed for trucks operating at lower gross weights, but it responds well to recalibration, particularly for operators running close to capacity on stop-start routes. The 7.7-litre DTI 8 is a six-cylinder engine offering 250, 280 and 320hp, and it sits in the D Wide and some C-series configurations. This is the engine you will find in a lot of regional distribution fleets, and it is one where remapping makes a noticeable difference to loaded performance. A D-Series 280 running the DTI 8, for example, goes from 280hp and 1,050Nm to 322hp and 1,239Nm after remapping.

The 11-litre DTI 11 covers the middle of the range with outputs of 380, 430 and 460hp. It pairs with the T-series for regional and long-distance haulage and with the C-series for heavier construction and distribution work. This is a versatile engine that Renault uses across a wide range of applications, and the factory calibrations are set conservatively to accommodate all of them. The 12.8-litre DTI 13 is the flagship, available at 440, 480 and 520hp with torque up to 2,550Nm. It powers the T and T High on long-haul work and the K-series on the heaviest construction applications. Renault also offers the DE13 Turbo Compound variant on the T and T High, which uses an additional turbine downstream of the turbocharger to recover energy from the exhaust gases. Our remaps for the DTI 13 range deliver substantial gains. A T-Series 520 running the DTI 13 moves from 520hp and 2,550Nm to 598hp and 3,009Nm, while a K-Series 440 goes from 440hp and 2,200Nm to 506hp and 2,596Nm.

Like most truck manufacturers, Renault uses the same physical engine block across multiple power ratings within each family. A DTI 13 rated at 440hp from the factory shares its core architecture with the 520hp version at the top of the range. The difference in output is largely down to software calibration, not hardware. The fuel maps, injection timing, boost pressure targets and torque limiters are all set conservatively to allow the same engine to operate reliably across a broad range of climates and conditions. That built-in headroom is exactly what makes Renault trucks so receptive to remapping. The hardware is already engineered to handle more than the factory map requires.

Our remaps for Renault trucks deliver real, measurable gains across the range. Here are some examples:

Common Questions About Renault Trucks Remapping

A:

Renault Trucks’ standard warranty terms do not account for aftermarket ECU modifications, so a remap could affect your warranty status on drivetrain claims. In practice, many operators remap trucks that are already outside the warranty period or weigh the fuel savings against the remaining warranty value. We always recommend checking your specific warranty terms before proceeding, and we’re happy to discuss this with you.

A:

The remap itself is typically completed within a few hours, including the diagnostic health check beforehand and verification afterwards. Most work is carried out at your premises by one of our authorised agents, so there’s no need to transport the truck anywhere. If you’re based near our HQ just outside Bristol, you can also bring your truck to us directly.

A:

Our remaps are developed with the specific operating parameters of each Renault Trucks engine platform in mind, from the DTI 5 through to the DTI 13. We work within the safe limits of the hardware, and the gains we achieve reflect headroom that Renault has already engineered into the engine. Every remap comes with a lifetime software warranty, and your original factory map is backed up so we can restore it at any time.

A:

This depends on the engine variant, load profile, driving style and operating conditions. We typically see savings of between 5% and 15%, with the biggest improvements coming from underpowered trucks hauling heavy loads along A roads where the engine is working hardest. The additional torque also means drivers can use less throttle to maintain speed under load, which contributes to lower consumption over time.

A:

Yes. Our agents carry out all HGV work at your premises, and we can phase the remaps across your fleet so that you’re never taking too many trucks off the road at once. Some fleet operators prefer to start with a couple of trucks and evaluate the results before rolling out across the rest of the fleet.

A:

We have over 300 authorised agents across the UK and internationally. Use our agent locator to find your nearest installer, or contact us, and we’ll connect you with an agent who covers your area.

A:

Yes. We back up your original factory map to a dedicated server before making any changes. If you ever want to revert to the standard Renault Trucks calibration, we can restore it at no additional cost.
